The Abode
Sri Kailash Ashrama Mahasamsthana, here is where, in 1960, a sapling of the spiritual seed was planted, nurtured and revered by Sri Tiruchi Mahaswamiji. Today the place breathes the glory of the Divine Mother in everything. This is a place, where in absolute serene surroundings, everything silently vibrates with the praise of the Supreme.
Founding of the Ashram
Sri Tiruchi Mahaswamiji's Guru is Sri Shivapuri Baba who lived in Kathmandu. The Guru, after initiating Mahaswamiji asked Him to go South, where much Divine work was to be done. Before coming down South, Mahaswamiji went to Mount Kailash. There, during intense meditation, He had a vision of the triple divinities of Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati; and a bodiless voice (Asarira van) asked Him to go to Karnataka.
Early in the morning on 14.01.1960, on the auspicious day of Sankranthi, Sri Tiruchi Mahaswamiji was proceeding to Mysore by car for a Pada Pooja, along with his two disciples. Just about six miles South West of Bangalore, He saw above Him in the sky, three Garudas (scared eagles) circling. He saw in them the images of Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati who had appeared to Him on Mount Kailash. Mahaswamiji proceeded along the footpath leading to a tiny village, Kenchanahalli. He spotted a tiny cottage amidst the grove of guava trees, the spot where the eagles kept on circling. He decided to have His Ashrama here. This area happens to be the ancient sacred Tapovan of Atri Maharishi and Mahasathi Anusuya.
From then onwards, the growth of the Ashram has been phenomenally rapid. Mahaswamiji built an Ashram complex consisting of numerous buildings, established a Patashala for Vedic and Agamic studies and free schools for academic education. The most important of all, Mahaswamiji constructed a temple at the present spot which was divinely ordained. Mahaswamiji has also built an auditorium and a mantapa.
